The District Journal Team
Anecdote of the Week

It all started back in the 1980s, in Australia, with a team of radio astronomers led by Dr. John O’Sullivan. They were engaged in the pursuit of mini black radio wave explosions – a rather challenging task due to the irregular nature of these explosions.
In an attempt to solve this problem, the team developed an algorithm capable of transforming echo radio signals into quantifiable data. Although they were unable to pinpoint the black radio wave explosions, they had inadvertently created something completely innovative.
Almost a decade later, the same team realized that their algorithm could be used to enhance the quality and speed of wireless data transmission – the cornerstone of Wi-Fi technology. It’s intriguing to think that the innovation that forever changed the way we access the internet was born almost accidentally during the search for an astronomical phenomenon!
